There are a few block chains that have better technology than ethereum but ethereum has the market penetration and all the developers are building on it. Plus ethereum's developers have been addressing its shortcomings very aggressively because they know it's still the wild west in Crypto.

Think of Ethereum as the internet and all the smaller tokens as networks on its wider web. Similar to how Facebook and Amazon etc were built on the internet. This is just a different layer built on the web that has developers building apps on it to meet specific needs. The main purpose being to decentralize ownership and power and make things we already do more efficient and cheaper.


That being said yes the vast majority of these Crypto's will crap out but there will be hundreds maybe eventually thousands that will thrive and they will all run on Ethereum's chain.
