By being much less efficient? He didn't score any better than Barcello did. He was basically worse at everything in the game of basketball.
Barcello is actually more dynamic player. He played 2 very different roles in his 2 years and did them well. McClung is just a "go get us some points" guy, however you have to do it, by jacking a ton of shots. And he still scored less. Being willing to shoot a ton doesn't mean you're a good scorer. Odds say you're going to inevitably get there if you shoot more. But that doesn't mean you're better at scoring. It might mean you're just better at wasting possessions in order to get there.
How is he more dynamic? Barcello could score from anywhere. Did he just drive more to get to the FT line a few more times?
