Look - I'm not making excuses for Mitchell's high use and low efficiency. I was cringing at some of the shots he took last night as much as anyone.
I just think you have to be careful how you interpret the stats.
It could be - that Mitchell takes too many shots and is inefficient and the Jazz lose 6 of 7.
It could be - that no one is playing well and so Mitchell takes more shots to try to shoot his way out of a bad night, resulting in him taking 25+ shots.
It could be - that Conley and Clarkson are both out (or maybe just one or the other is) and the Jazz are struggling to score, so Mitchell takes 25+ shots.
It could be - that the Jazz are playing horrendous defense which means they need to score more points and that leads to Mitchell taking 25+ shots.
I'd be curious as to the shooting % and scoring of all of the other players in those games in which Mitchell took 25+ shots and the Jazz lost. I think that might tell part of the story. I'd also be curious to see the Jazz defensive efficiency numbers and what role they might play - if you don't stop the other team, you need to score more points, which requires more shots.
What I'm trying to point out is simply that there are many more variables involved than just how many shots Mitchell takes. You certainly don't believe that the Jazz simply need to keep Mitchell under 25 shots per night and they'll win 83% of their remaining games.
