Often I prefer the audio books for that very reason. Some are really good.

As an example, the first time I listened to Jack Reacher read by Dick Hill, I found it odd. But after just a short time that unusual cadence and style became emblematic of Jack Reacher. The new guy, who is actually quite an accomplished voice actor, just falls short. He doesn't sound like Jack Reacher.
