Where I lived in Toronto, there were elevators in most buildings that ran
on a sabbath schedule on Saturdays. The buttons didn't work, the elevator just stopped at every single floor. apparently pushing an electric button is the modern equivalent of lighting a flame which is prohibited in orthodoxy.

The oven in our home had a sabbath setting, and a neighborhood near us had a Eruv (the wire that encloses a neighborhood that makes it a single location to make keeping the sabbath easier).
