I was back visiting my parents recently and went up to my old high school to checkout and run on their new track. When there I noticed they had new banners for the Hall of Fame athletes that went in as part of the project. It was such a hilarious case of small town politics.

Former players and coaches with the “right” last names that didn’t do anything in athletics post high school displayed front and center, while a former NFL player’s name is tucked in the corner and a former 4-year softball star and All-American at Florida State isn’t even in the HOF. Very few D1 college athletes have come out of this school in the past 90 years. There is even a former BYU football player who started 30+ games not in the HOF.

I’ve been away from small town politics in athletics for a long time - this reminded me how stupid it is.
