Has the SSD been formatted?
Go to Disk Management and check to see if the 2nd disk is visible. It probably has not been formatted. Once you select and format the 2nd disk (probably as NTFS), it should then be readily visible to Windows 10 when disconnected and reconnected.

Its possible the disk isn't getting enough power from the laptop.
