The 40 probably shoots the softest but it's huge. My 20 is the go-to for backcountry, although still heavy. I'd like a 29 for a lighter backcountry piece but I can't imagine it is fun to shoot. That probably doesn't matter though if you aren't going to shoot it a ton and are carrying for a bear encounter.
