think it's more effective at stopping an attack/charge, I think it's easier and more forgiving to use.
I can't imagine the stress and adrenaline associated with a bear attack, in a situation like that the cloud of spray is more forgiving and easier to put on target than a single bullet.
I've suffered from "buck fever" before, where you're so nervous and pumped with adrenaline (like during the moment you have to harvest a deer/elk) that you make dumb mistakes. For example, as a teen I had a shot at an elk out in the wide open, it was a nice bull and bigger than any I'd shot. I rested my rifle on a tree and fired four shots, or so I'd thought....
When the encounter was over I'd been so nervous I'd fired only two shots, the other two rounds I cycled into the chamber of the gun but had totally forgot to actually pull the trigger. Looking back I think I cycled them into the chamber, found the bull in my scope, then cycled again putting a new round in without ever firing.
