That reminds me a little of when my grandpa died and I inherited is collection of coins
I had zero interest in them. My mom said if I didn't want it that she would take it, as it had more meaning for her. She then gave me a ring that he was given from his employer when he retired. That was more cool to me. Perhaps when everyone gets their inherited collections, you can do some swapping among each other.

My parents are being more proactive about giving stuff to their kids now that is meaningful to them rather than waiting until they pass. They also recognize that there's a lot of stuff that is not meaningful to any of us, and they're purging quite a bit. My dad is still a bit of a hoarder, but not nearly as bad as some people.
