I grew up in Alabama and in middle school, our coaches only let us take one water break during practice. 2 hour practice and water break was in the middle.
We’d kneel in a line across the goal line and then coaches would move down the line and squirt one gulp in our mouths. Then at the end of practice they’d dump the ice from the buckets on the ground and we’d run lines until they were satisfied. When we were done, we could fight over whatever ice was unmelted.
Two-a-days. In the Alabama summer. 2 water breaks.
When I got to high school I was stunned that we had access to the PVC pipe water horses between drills and the only thing we had to do to earn it was make sure we were to the next drill on time.
I think my middle school coaches would be in jail today.
