the cartoons have the best Star Wars storytelling. However, they have filler
episodes too that are more designed for kids or the hard core fans. So you either need a guide online to the best story arcs and which episodes those are or just go in knowing some episodes are lame while others are really, really good.

I've never had any interest in watching a Star Wars cartoon. Maybe I have missed something, but it doesn't feel like it.
