I watched the 1st episode this morning
It stands on its own fairly well, but there are some episodes of the Clone Wars that serve as introductions to the characters. The 3 episode arc of Clone Wars season 7 is probably the most relevant.

It'll be an entertaining show. I enjoy it as an adult but it's definitely geared towards children.
