If he had recognized how awful and unglamorous the juco scene is he probably would have listened more closely. There is a HUGE drop off from high school athletic experience to junior college, typically. With a few exceptions most communities do not really give a rip about their juco teams and the quality of team play is inferior because every player is out to get his/her own.

I will add that probably one of the worst jobs in America is a junior college athletics coach. I would never want to do that.
