Attorneys have to run conflicts checks, get an engagement letter signed, etc.
The new intake alone will take over 30 minutes of administrative work. Then they're going to have to listen to you describe your claim, make a determination if it has merit, review the applicable code sections and then write a basic demand letter. No way it takes them less than an hour to do all that. And they typically don't want to take on new work for the prospect of doing work for a client that thinks it should only be $50. I think you'd be better off appealing to emotions and position it as a service project. Also, $50 for 15 minutes equates to $200/hr. If you find an attorney that charges $200/hr, then you may want to look for a better attorney. I'm with Thrill, that you could do it without a lawyer.
