It's just another way to add to their revenue stream
Hotel pricing, especially at high-end establishments in cities, has devolved into a huge scam over the last few decades. Huge parking fees, resort fees, and then nickel and diming you on everything else (like internet, gym/spa usage, business center usage, etc.) That $129/night deal that you booked on Expedia quickly becomes $200+/night.
