Totally agree. Too many people listening to “influencers” about stuff they
know nothing about.
People send me all sorts of blog posts and social media posts about this or that because of my field of study and I gently ask them how they know this person.
Usual response: “She’s a mom I follow on Instagram” or “He’s a mechanic I watch on YouTube” or “she’s really smart about these things (meaning, I really agree with her)”.
People believe fame is equivalent to expertise. It’s not. Nor is opinion.
