So, Pre-Covid ... we would have group potluck parties ... everyone brings stuff....

SOME things clearly get left out on the counter or in the welcome area ... clearly up for grabs to snack on....

SOME stuff, since it needs to be refrigerated, goes into the fridge.

Is that "up for grabs" or not?

I guess I kind of look at it is "on the day of the party, NOT up for grabs, since whoever brought it might be planning on taking it home at the end of the day" ... but stuff that is still there the next day or two, that is clearly being left there for group consumption.
