realized how special it really is there. Life, family, and church basically run so beautifully there. When your focus is family, family, and family in that order, life really simplifies. Living in OH has been eye opening. It feels like everywhere is dog eat dog. Even among friends, there is always a clique or a group and nobody else really matters. Back home, it seemed everyone was basically family. It's not perfect by any means, but now (and for the last 20 years) I have seen that they have their priorities mostly straight. I remember an article after Kahuku won the state championship, the writer penned "one team was playing for a championship, the other was playing for a community". I think that best explains what the North Shore is about. Most of us young ones from my YA years did struggle with island fever when we graduated, but I think the vast majority of us today would move back in a heartbeat.
