We need to own our healthcare in America. That includes paying for poor decisions like not eating well or exercising. We need to also build in better incentives for people to make these good choices. For example, I think we need to better subsidize things like recreation center and exercise classes---it will end up saving us money in the long run as a society. We also need to stop subsidizing things that are bad for us, like corn syrup, which enjoys a very high government subsidy.
We know why we're sick, and it has a name—the Standard American Diet (and lack of exercise, I'd add). BNut we need to make the tough decisions to get better as a country.
