I haven't done it, but I do know it isn't uncommon for potential buyers to send pics of their family and a written

letter to the seller when they submit their offer. My parents worked in real estate and saw that buying tactic allow people to have their offer accepted over higher bidders.

I can definitely see it being weird outside of the former offer process though.
