A little different perspective...At the time we needed a ND announcement at
least as much as we needed a game, probably more. It seemed to give credibility to our new independence, probably resulting in making other P5 teams feel like they could schedule BYU without lowering what they perceived were their standards, i.e. BYU could be considered a P5 equivalent for scheduling.
When ND speaks, everyone listens. Without the announcement we may have floundered a very long time trying to get enough P5 teams to make our move look legitimate.
I hope we get a ND-BYU home game. If not, I still appreciate the early endorsement that their announcement provided.
