I do think the arms race of the Cold War era had a lot to do with the debt
At one time.
That time is probably way past at this point given the fact that the debt to GDP ratio in 1989 was 51%, in 2007 it was 62% and today it is 129%.
We’ve had a spending problem for a very long time but since The Great Recession we have basically stopped trying.
I could be wrong but that’s my perception.
