Years ago my child was seriously considering Alabama for her undergrad. (30 ACT and 4.0;multi sport athlete, stud gov)She applied, was accepted and received almost 30k in scholarship money for her first year.

We compared that to her having to pay for BYU. The delta was 27k for tuition and room and board).

She went to BYU. BYU students have it made in the shade. Whatever they are paying or their parents are paying or whatever loans they are taking out are itsy bitsy. If they raise tuition 5k over five years or whatever, it is still the best and cheapest game in town.
