His response was basically that he had spent years and decades grinding in the music scene trying to make it. And the anger at NOT making it and hunger TO make just kept driving him forward knowing he WOULD make it one day.

And then he wakes up one morning and realizes he HAS made it. He has more money than he ever imagined. He was happily married (he's been married to the same woman since 1981). And that he just wasn't that hungry and angry anymore because his life was so good.
