your gate entrance. And so each gate had a stopping point out on the curb, then you would walk through your door into the airport and right up to your gate to board. But right after the airport opened, there was a specific terrorism/hijacking event that led to the FAA mandating security screening before the gates.
So then the entire way the airport was designed to function was immediately outdated and it wasn't design to accommodate foot traffic both pré and post security. And so KC ended up with the crappy design band-aid that is the KC airport for decades.
