From what I hear, L&D has one of the worst reputations for nurses "eating their young". It will obviously depend hospital to hospital, but I'd encourage caution and being open to other departments if it doesn't work out. Many nurses love L&D and have great experiences there, so hopefully that's the case for your wife.
