to destroy us. All power is corrupt, and power can only be trusted to those who don't want it.

This creates a self-fulfilling prophecy because in the real world power has to be sought to be obtained and isn't suddenly thrust upon us.

The end result is something like: a) we distrust anyone who wants power; b) the only ones who get power are those who want it and thus can't be trusted; c) we stop trusting authority and power and those who have power are immediately looked at askance; d) now even fewer decent people want power because they think it is for bad people/bozos, e) the trustworthiness of those in power goes down because even fewer decent people want anything to do with it; f) we see that the people with power are even worse than we had imagined and trust them even less and despise them more; g) repeat ad infinitum and it keeps getting worse.
