So, this guy plugged (married) his generator into a 220V plug and it suppled electricity to the rest of his house? I had not idea you could do that. Here was his answer:

"Here is the secret. I'll phrase it as what I did, so no one sues me. I had a laundry room with electric dryer by the window. I married a dryer connector to a receptacle for my generator's 240VAC connection. If you are not electrically inclined and/or cannot follow technical instructions (if your degree is in the Humanities I'm talking to you), have an electrician do it. Then I turned off my main breaker to isolate the house, and plugged the generator into the dryer outlet. the 30amp fuse on that outlet now controlled max power to the house. We made sure to not run the furnace, microwave, coffee maker when we turned on the water heater for showers. This worked pretty good."
