“Could” and “will” are different.
The headline is misleading because the article only postulates what could happen, not necessarily will happen.

While it’s true that CFP came to life only after the demands of both the Rose and the Sugar agreed upon, this is a speculative article, at best.

The Sugar also views the January 1, prime time spot as sacrosanct.

A compromise will undoubtedly be reached, but it will will take all 7 stakeholders - ESPN, both bowls, the Big Ten, Big 12, PAC 12, and the SEC - to agree on an equitable solution.

The current TV contracts pays $80M to both bowls. When they are not semi-finals, that money passes through to the contracted conferences, each receiving $40M.

Whatever solution is adopted, we can be certain that the four conferences will be adequately compensated
