He knew if he didn’t beat him what would happen to him
I think it’s easy for any of us to say you compete and try and beat him. But we are Americans and if we didn’t beat our opponent but we tried that’s all most would ask of us. It’s possible he felt more than this on his shoulders and decided to quit is more honorable than to get beat and have to face the consequences of that. I can’t imagine living in a place where this would even exist let alone enough to feel I would be better off to not take the chance of what a loss might do to me or my family.
