it's that schools will ultimately make any self-interested move they deem necessary to maintain their place in the great race for more revenue. If BYU can make it work - albeit imperfectly - there's certainly no logistical reason why a USC or UCLA couldn't.

One thing is for sure, though, the Pac-12 is not going to be closing the gap with the B1G or SEC anytime soon.
