Assuming it all plays out I think TH has known something was up for a while. While MHve3 is rarely correct, he's not always completely wrong either. I think the Yugo level academic ratings for his beloved WVa spell doom to the ACC wanting them...but he did say about 6 weeks ago something big was in the works with BYU. So my guess is, there has been ongoing talks among a lot of players, the little eight of the Big12 were NOT that surprised and I believe a lot of the issues with BYU may have been either hashed out already, or BYU has already declined (this latter option being highly unlikely per TH's recent interviews in as little as the last three weeks.

I think there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes and we can only speculate based on rational analysis and evaluation, not what talking heads say. although on ESPNU 84 today BYU was mentioned as a program the eight schools could pick up that would fill some big shoes "...if BYU would even be interested."
