Considering the circumstances, coupled with his previous bests, that has to be one of the most remarkable individual performances in Olympic history even though technically it was in a team event.

I can't say it really tops Rulon Gardner or other individual performances that don't come to mind at the moment, but it was absolutely remarkable.
