Short term ploy to get the last four years of revenue from the current deal
If anyone is actually thinking that far ahead, inviting "lesser schools" will mean a significant drop in revenue when the contract is up for renewal.
Also, the optics of inviting "lesser schools" make you seem like a lesser conference.
