yeah, I should have included that as an option - why can't the rule just be....
that fouls in the box lead to direct free kicks from the spot of the foul, with the penalty spot used in 2 situations:
1. the foul occurs closer to the goal than the penalty spot
2. the foul also led to a yellow/red card for the defender (say, due to an intentional foul to stop a scoring chance)
