but Canada doesn't want to merge with the US. The US is more likely to break into pieces than to merge with Canada.

That said, I could see Alberta and the prairie provinces merging with the red states in the US's midwest and Rocky Mountain region if the US were to break apart. And BC would probably link with the US's west coast before Quebec if we were re-drawing the map.
