Alberta is a good merger partner with SLC or KC, but not DC. In case you didn't notice, DC just slammed the door on Alberta's last hope for a pipeline to the Gulf of Mexico (after BC and Quebec slammed their doors on pipelines to the Canadian coasts).

Zeihan himself would tell you what I said. Canada would break up if the US did. But Quebec would not willingly join a country with Texas in it. Nor would BC willingly join a country with Alabama.
