The notion of BYU being "high maintenance" was originated by Chip Brown back in 2012:

When asked if the BigXII has any interest in BYU now, Chip responded that they have none. So, many BYU fans will wonder if Sunday play was an issue. According to Chip, "The Big 12 could have worked around it when there was mutual interest. As time went on and other options presented themselves to the Big 12, BYU's Sunday play and LDS may have become more of a 'high maintenance' factor."

Fast forward 9 years, and everyone is marveling at just how quickly things are moving forward. Maybe BYU did baulk a bit in 2010-12. Or maybe it was more of BYU not rolling over for the real high maintenance entity in the Big 12.

Chip Brown didn't do anything without first kissing the Texas AD ring. All of his scoops were leaks by the Texas AD to move their agenda forward. Now that Texas is out of the picture in the Big 12, suddenly BYU is great to work with.

BYU is not high maintenance. 2012 or 2021.
