If BYU maintains perception of being a top dog or one of them, it actually gets easier scheduling, more favorable treatment and the perception of being one of the top teams is huge for recruiting.
It's one thing for a recruit to want to play in the Big 12. It's another if he thinks he's going to win in the Big 12. Especially for upper tier LDS.
BYU beating ASU for example, would be a fantastic bragging point.
If BYU loses, who cares? There's such a long list of P5 schools that Kalani has beaten that BYU is sitting pretty regardless, IMO.
