Both Dallas and Austin are amazing. For those staying in Dallas, I highly suggest going to the following barbecue:
Cattleack in Farmers Branch - Only open Thursdays and Fridays...their meats are as peppery as you'll find, but the brisket, ribs (both pork and beef, although the beef run out quickly), and turkey might be my favorite of any barbecue restaurants anywhere in the world. Also, try their special meats

Hutchins Barbecue in McKinney - This is my fall back option that I hit every time I'm back in Dallas visiting my dad and my siblings. It's about a 10 minute drive from my dad's house, and it is amazing barbecue. There isn't a bad thing on the menu, and I especially love their fried okra as it is outstanding and something I rarely see in Utah or the Pacific Northwest where I spend most of my time. Their McKinney location is the original and still the best, although the Frisco pit is not bad either.

I promise that you will not be disappointed with either of these locations.
