When Luke got cut from the Lions, a huge number of people got on the board to post it. There were a ton of posts over a
few hours, all basically with the title "Staley got cut".
After that, when you would see something similar, someone would post "Staley got cut" as a reference to the phenomenon. This eventually got shortened to "SGC", with the common usage being either to reply to a piece of news that had already been posted a lot, or something like "This may be SGC, but The Jets drafted Wilson".
