#1 Bama - breaking in a new QB, didn’t look dominant vs Florida and almost lost. I’d rank them below last year’s national champion and even last year’s runner up, but this isn’t last year. I currently am not seeing a team to rank above Bama, but it’s a long season and that could change.
#2 Georgia - turns out beating Clemson might not be as impressive as we thought. While UGA handily beat Carolina, that Gamecocks team is terrible. You would have expected a national title contender to have dropped 50+. UGA’s offense is definitely a question mark.
#3 Oregon - impressive win at tOSU, but just how good is tOSU this season? Don’t know. This Oregon team barely survived Fresno.
#4 OU - they seem the most overrated of the current top 5. Barely squeaking by Tulane and Nebraska? I’m not seeing why they are ranked so high.
#5 Iowa - have you been to Iowa? And really, only 30 pts on Kent State? 23-7 heading into the 4th was pathetic.
#6 Penn St - two impressive wins over Wisconsin and Auburn. Nothing yet to say they don’t deserve their ranking. More impressive than anything OU and Iowa have done so far.
#7 aTm - ok, this is a joke of a ranking. You can’t be a top 10 team if you can’t score. Arkansas probably exposes them this week.
#8 Cincinnati - hard to say. I do think they beat ND next week, though, but I also believe ND is overrated. They keep doing enough to deserve respect, though.
#9 Clemson - same comment as aTm. You can’t be a top 10 team if you can’t score.
#10 tOSU - struggled against Minnesota, lost at home to Oregon.
I could keep going down the list, but this is taking forever on a phone. Point is, you can point to weaknesses among most of the top 25 this season. BYU also having weaknesses does not make them overrated. You have to compare them to the teams that are actually around them this year. I don’t believe Bama is as strong of a #1 team as we’ve seen the past few years, but so far nobody else this year has made their case that they are better.
