He is coming up on needing the first one he had replaced to be done again.

I’ve had some hip problems at points, but the last 8-9 years have been much better since I got one of the high end Tempurpedic mattresses. It relieved a lot of the pressure in certain areas as I’m a side sleeper. Not sure when you are having the most pain, but this basically eliminated the pain for me.
