You give voters more credit than they deserve.
Here's what they really think:
If a team lost, then move them down. If it's understandable, just drop them a few spots. if it's a bad loss, then they loss more, like 7-8 spots. If a team has a big win, then you leap them forward some spots.
The rest, like BYU, garners very little thought or attention. Just keep perculating up the polls until you lose.
