If I hear one more BYU fan blame Tuiki and the defense for that Boise loss…
I’m going to lose my mind… Was the defense perfect? No, not by any stretch of the imagination, but they were not the reason BYU lost that game. The BYU defense held Boise to 3 points before mistakes GAVE Boise scoring drives that started on OUR 24 TWICE! We then made a HUGE mistake and went for it on 4th on our own 47 yard line, and failed to gain 2 yards against arguably the WORST defensive front 7 we’ve faced all year. That once again gave Boise FANTASTIC field position, and our D did their job and held them to a field goal. It was one of the sole bright spots of the first half. Boise then started the half with the ball, and the defense held them to a field goal once again… We then get the momentum back with a long drive that would have brought us to within 3, and what happens? The offense gives it right back to Boise… Does Boise score? Nope… The defense makes the stop. Boise then gets within our 3 yard line… and can’t score. They’re held to another field goal.

So where did the defense fail? They gave up two touchdowns where the starting field position was inside our own 25? Sure… That’s true, but they never should have been put in that position. This game was lost because we turned the ball over 6 times… (3 fumbles - 2 of which resulted in EXTREMELY short fields, and 1 that killed a touchdown drive and shifted the momentum back to Boise, a desperation throw / interception, and 2 turnover on downs.)

BYU was clearly the better team, and the defense did their job considering the positions they were put in. Be more disciplined and don’t cough up the ball, and BYU wins this game 24 to 12, with the defense only giving up 4 field goals and less than 350 total yards.
