The realism Spielberg brought to that movie was shocking at the time.

Still a great flick if you have a nice home theater set up, but seeing that movie in the theaters with the surround sound that they intentionally had just a little on the high side for effect, left you just a little bit shell shocked.

Shawshank is completely different but likewise has its moments that leave you just numb. Hard to compare the two because they're so different thematically, but of the two I personally think Shawshank was the superior, particularly if you can't watch Saving Private Ryan on the big screen.

Both movies are truly works of art that will stand the test of time.
