the amount of gum that has been spit out and trodden over. It is pretty nasty. While I don't think resorting to Singaporean type justice for spitting gum on the sidewalk is necessary, I wonder how much money a town could make if six officers were given gum duty and stationed outside areas like the one I mentioned and waited to write a 100 dollar littering ticket. In a town like Boston it would take maybe a year to get the picture through to the local community that spitting gum isn't tolerated. Although the other option would make sure gum was able to break down quickly once chewed for x number of minutes let's say two hours max and once spit out it would break down even more and become dirt.
