RE: Help me understand your thinking on this being a new precedent?
Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I have a different perspective but have a better idea now where others are coming from.

Every statistic tells me that this vaccine is safe and effective. It is not perfect and could be unsafe for some, just like all vaccines could be unsafe for some. That said, for the vast majority it will protect them from a severe reaction to COVID. The statistics also say that COVID is a lot more likely to be dangerous to us than the vaccine.

I also feel the technology for testing and producing a vaccine is tremendously advanced vs the time when the polio vaccine was developed. Vaccines can be developed safely faster and be tested more completely with today's knowledge and scientific advances. My understanding is that the mRNA technology used for the vaccine is not new and has been developed for years as well. My friend who is a senior Pfizer employee told me that Pfizer would usually do a first round of testing and then only do a second round if the first tests had positive results. Due to the nature of the COVID situation they went all in and did all rounds of testing concurrently which was a major investment but one that would pay off big time if successful. They are a business after all. On that note, I also wouldn't expect them to take a risk on this high profile of a vaccine if they were not confident in their testing. It would destroy their business completely to launch an unsafe vaccine.

As for the government, I do think it is healthy to recognize that political motives are not always pure (on either side of the aisle). I hate how political this public safety issue has become. I am also not 100% on board with mandates that impact employment and young children. Still sorting out how I feel about all of that.

I do think vaccination works and the numbers say so. I do support the First Presidency's assertion that the vaccine is safe and effective. I also respect others opinions and accept that my opinions could be wrong.

Sorry for the very long response and thanks for taking my question as it was intended.
