A few thoughts on the Dodger game.
I wasn't able to watch it live, although I was listening in the car when Bellinger hit his bomb. I haven't gone so crazy over a sporting event since ... last Thursday night? Anyway, there's something oddly fun about listening live on the radio, although watching it live on TV is always better.

Anyway, I just finished watching key parts of the game, and have a few observations. 1

1. How does Lux miss that fly ball in CF. Ugh. It may have been sunny and it wasn't a routine play, but come on. It was funny how they kept showing Lux in the Dodger dugout during the rest of the game (as the Dodgers were losing), as if to continually point the blame on him. That is, it was funny to see that in hindsight, knowing the Dodgers had won.

2. In that 4th inning, Buehler had Joc 1-2 and then threw a beautiful pitch on the low-inside corner. It wasn't really even that borderline and was clearly a strike, but the ump bailed Joc out. A few pitches later, Joc hits an RBI single, scoring their first of four runs that inning. That was a brutal call that had a massive impact.

3. The box score shows that Buehler gave up 4 earned runs in 3.2 innings. But that's not a good reflection of how he pitched. If Lux catches that ball (which was ruled a hit, not an error) and if the ump calls the third strike on Joc (as he should have), the Braves don't score a single run in that inning and Buehler goes into the 5th having given up no runs and without the same pitch count. Granted, they hit some balls hard (including the one Lux flubbed), and maybe the inning doesn't play out the same. But still, that's a brutal box score given what happened to him in the 4th.

4. The broadcast showed a bunch of cars leaving the Dodger Stadium parking lot in the 8th when the Dodgers were down 5-2. LOL. That is reminiscent of the classic scene from the 9th inning of Game 1 of the 1988 World Series (which I attended) when Dodger fans made sure to beat the traffic when losing only by 1 run in a World Series game. And then of course Gibson hit his epic homer, and Bellinger followed suit tonight. Those fans must have felt like total morons when they heard Bellinger's home on the radio while driving on Stadium Way. And deservedly so.

5. I feel good about our chances, but still quite nervous. The Braves are very tough and tomorrow's game is huge.
